Preamble
As part of NASPSPA’s goal of promoting equity, diversity and inclusion, the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force is collecting membership demographic information.
The data will be used to:
- Understand which groups our membership identify with.
- Provide context for initiatives to encourage and support more diverse representation.
- Inform new policies and initiatives aimed at encouraging and supporting a diverse, representative membership.
We acknowledge that this questionnaire is imperfect, and is constructed from a North American, higher education perspective.
The development of this questionnaire was informed by: The McMaster University Employee Self-Identification Report and current (2017) Statistics Canada ethnic origins categories. Questions related to sex and gender were developed following the guidelines of American Psychological Association, and in consultation with Dr. Neeloffer Mookherjee (CIHR Sex and Gender Science Chair – Circulatory and Respiratory Health) and Ms. Jackie Gruber (EDI Director, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba).
Privacy Statement
The purpose of the self-identification questions is to collect information so that NASPSPA can monitor the diversity of its membership and design new measures aimed to promote greater equity, diversity, and inclusion in our organization.
Your data will be collected, used, disclosed, and retained in accordance with the Privacy Act. The data may be used for the purposes of society planning, program development, monitoring, and audits. The data will not be used or shared outside of the stated purposes. Self-identification information will be collected anonymously (i.e., will not be linked to your membership record), and will always be reported in aggregate form, to ensure confidentiality. NASPSPA will never report or share self-identification data specific to an individual, if the aggregate data has potential to be identifiable (i.e., due to small numbers) then categories will be collapsed when reporting aggregate data.
